Lawyer Lamin K Mboge, was on Tuesday 21st of February 2012 sentence at the Banjul Magistrates’ court to two years in prison with heard labour.
Delivering the judgment, Principal Magistrate Alagbe Taiwo Ade said the convict was arraigned on four count charges, i.e. making false documents without authority, false swearing, and Uttering false documents and Making false documents.
The trial Magistrate indicated that the accused person is guilty as charged in all counts and the sentence was delivered as follow:
On count one the convict was sentence to two years in Prison with hard labour.
Ranging from count two to four, the convict was sentence to serve one and a half year in prison without hard labour on each count. He said all sentences are to run concurrently.
The court further ordered that the amount of six thousand five hundred dalasis be returned to the complainant in this case.
In his plea of mitigation, lawyer Mboge said the purpose of filing exhibit A was to assist the complainant in this case; adding that he is a highly responsible man and served on the bench and thereafter he became a private practitioner and he has been practicing for the past seventeen years.
“I have committed myself to fight for the rights of the poor and the powerless, today I’m in this court because of this commitment to serve humanity”, said Mboge. He added that he provides legal services for more than fifty people.
He appeal to the court to exercise the best discretion by cautioning and discharging him because as he stands before the court that legal error will never occur in his practice or in his life time.
“Lastly Your Worship this is a lesson not only for me but for the whole world not to make errors in the case of rendering services to the public”, said Mboge.
He finally indicated to the court that such an error will never occur again.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mikailu Abdullahi told the court that they have no record of previous conviction and the convict was sentence as stated above.
