National Youth Coalition commends Schulenberg’s recall

February 8th, 2012 · by Abu Bakarr Kargbo · No Comments

The National Youth Coalition (NYC) has been following the allegations made against the Executive Representative of the United Nations secretary General in Sierra Leone, Michael Schulengerg by the head of United Democratic Movement Party, Mohamed Bangura.
According to the President of the Coalition, Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh, the United Nations Peacebuilding office in Sierra Leone did not handle the matter as expected. He noted that the Coalition was expecting a thorough investigation from UNIPSIL. This, he said left the public to be suspicious about the UN, especially so when it was their head in Sierra Leone who was involved in an alleged immoral act.
The NYC President reiterated the fact that they are not surprise to see the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon taking the right decision to recall the ERSG in Sierra Leone.
“We are aware of the fact that there has been a rotation of ERSGs,” Mr. Conteh said, and warned that people should stop spreading false rumours that it was the present government that issued a persona non grata on the ERSG. He noted that these decisions are mostly taken in nondemocratic states. “Those detracting spreading such false information are not doing a good service to the nation,” he said, and added that they trust in the present leadership of the country, which is willing enough to promote the democratic values of the country.
The NYC President promised that the Coalition will work with the Successor of the outgoing ERSG. He advised diplomats in the country to work in accordance with their terms of reference.
