MINISTER OF Health, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour says it is important that healthcare as an industry with many actors and contributors should be planned and serviced on a sector-wide basis with the involvement of communities.
Speaking at the launch of the Chiropractic and Wellness Centre’s (CWC) new brand-‘Corporate Wellness Program’ at Dzorwulu in Accra on Tuesday, Dr. Kunbour said that this concept of healthcare for a good corporate image would be sustainably instituted for the executive class to enable the health sector reach out its message on “regenerative health and nutrition.
He added that it is as well to encourage exercise in the home and stress management SPAs which “we are promoting and intend to regulate”.
“We believe that cooperate executives understand this business of building teams and can contribute to healthcare services planning and utilization”, he said.
However, components of this initiative include quarterly corporate wellness workshops, e-weekly mentoring subscription, ergonomic workstation assessments, corporate wellness and consultancy/advisory services.
Others are bio-structural exams, on-site seated massages, discounts on wellness partners products and discounted chiropractic care packages.
The program introduces and maintains “a wellness culture in your company that creates happier, healthier, more productive and more focused employees – qualities that ultimately determine the success of an organisation in today’s competitive work environment”.
In line with mainstream health delivery under the quality assurance policy on training and practice of complementary health practitioners, the Minister urged that a Chiropractic doctor ought to be seen as a primary contact practitioner, who serves as a collaborator and sees to the optimum function of the body.
This could be achieved by relieving interferences in nerve function and transmission of vital messages in the body.
“As much as complementary alternative medicine is being promoted, we also have to acknowledge the role of western medicine in corrective surgery, neurology, cardiology, diagnostic techniques and in responding to emergencies”, he emphasized.
Chiropractic practice, he continued must thus be seen to be referring appropriately to neurologist and orthopedic specialists.
Dr. Marcus Manns, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Chiropractic and Wellness Centres outlined the benefits of the new programme, saying it is aimed at improving employee health, reduce sick leave, reduced medical claims with increased productivity among others.
According to him, it is an effective way to help employees and their families improve their lifestyle choices.
Mrs. Bernice Ashie Kotei, who was awarded for practicing Chiropractic for seven months, told HEALTH MATTERS that she visited one of the facilities with a knee problem. Since then, she had been relieved of the problem and going about her normal duties.
