A declaration from the just ended Second African Parliamentarians’ Summit on Climate Change held in Nairobi, Kenya has called on rich nations to set aside 1.5 percent of their GDP to support climate change mitigation and adaptation in Africa.
The continent also demanded that industrialized countries reduce their green house gas (GHG) emissions by at least 40 percent by 2020 below 1990 levels and between 80 and 95 percent by 2050.
The declaration according to the Parliamentarians who attended the summit will be the cornerstone of Africa’s position at the UN Conference on Climate Change to be held in Copenhagen this December.
